The stars, they are out tonight
So don’t you leave!
Don’t let the cold outside
Affect your star of belief
In and out I’ve come to know
In and out the vision and belief
In and out I’ve come to know
This will take all my time and my greed
Now that you know why
Stand tall through the night!
The stars, they are out tonight
So don’t you leave!
Don’t let the wind in time
Affect your star of belief
I thought by now I’d know it all
I thought by now at least I’d know my call
I thought by now I’d know everything
At least I have my own understanding
Now that you know why
Stand tall through the night!

To the Window
To the window
The cat keeps gyrating
Her head every time
A passerby navigates his path
Does not the cat notice
It is only a reflection,
The same person, just an image?
No, she believes one
Person walks on the path
And the other walks on its head
In the same direction, just
Offset by time in seconds
I envy the innocence, intensity
Yet simplicity of the cat’s focus
Actively moving her head
To see both the person
And then to see the same person
A second time, again, a new
Experience in the same person seen
From a different angle.
The cat keeps gyrating
Her head every time
A passerby navigates his path
Does not the cat notice
It is only a reflection,
The same person, just an image?
No, she believes one
Person walks on the path
And the other walks on its head

Yet simplicity of the cat’s focus
Actively moving her head
To see both the person
And then to see the same person
A second time, again, a new
Experience in the same person seen
From a different angle.
A Stone Hearted Alchemist
With all my trying
Sometimes feels like lying
To myself and others who love me
What more can I do?
Now I’ve learned from Dr. Phil and from Oprah too
All the tricks that should make my heart turn to gold
These modern alchemists selling the same market
As those alchemists did at my great-great grandfather’s door
“We can change this rock to gold with this special recipe”
Just like my great-great grandfather I must admit
That with all the self-help books I’ve read the alchemist is still the liar
And I am the honest one
I’m waiting for a true scientist
The True Scientist that has the spiritual reality
Of changing this rock stone heart into gold
Sometimes feels like lying
To myself and others who love me
What more can I do?
Now I’ve learned from Dr. Phil and from Oprah too
All the tricks that should make my heart turn to gold
These modern alchemists selling the same market
As those alchemists did at my great-great grandfather’s door
